Basic Smoothie Starter

I usually start all of my green smoothies with the same basic recipe:

  • 1 apple or pear cored & chopped ~OR~ two cups of grapes
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 large handfuls of Spinach

From here the possibilities are limited ONLY by your imagination.


  1. Okay--I tried one today for the first time and I have to say I'm VERY surprised at how good it was. I thought for sure that I would taste the spinach (and I hate spinach), but I couldn't. I tried mine with a banana, pineapple, and apple. I do think I need to add more water next time though because the consistancy was a little "off".

  2. Just thought I'd share a recipe that I've been making my kids for a couple of years that they adore. I use 3 bananas, a cup or two of milk, 3-4 handfuls of spinach, and a couple squirts of honey. Blend it in the Vitamix and they guzzle the stuff. Bananas are key! Sometimes I will add yogurt instead of milk and add water. I'll try yours as soon as I restock my spinach supply! Great idea for a blog, by the way... so glad I found you!
