Day Forty One

My internet connection is very intermittent right now. I was in the middle of typing this post last night when I was somehow attacked by spyware. So I shut everything down, ran a scan and just went to bed. Today things seem to be running a little more smoothly, so keep your fingers crossed for me! Yesterday's smoothie:
  • 2 bananas
  • lots of spinach
  • 2 spears of pineapple
  • water
  • ICE

I was out of OJ and I wanted something that I knew I'd enjoy. I'll get a little more adventerous again later this week.

Day Forty

Let's see if blogger cooperates a little better today than it did last night. I actually made this smoothie last night, but there is enough left in the fridge to last me through most of today. I think, until the germs are out of our house, I'll be making my smoothies early. Just in case those germs get me, I'll have smoothie on hand to combat them and still keep my on track for my challenge. So, last night's smoothie was:
  • 1 apple, cut into cubes (skin left on)
  • 1 10oz bag of frozen sweet cherries
  • gobs of spinach
  • 2 c OJ

Its tart, but very very good. My husband hasn't tried it yet, I'm not sure if he'll like it or not. He's not a fan of cherries.

  • 1 (fairly green) banana
  • 2-3 large handfuls spinach
  • frozen mixed fruit (peaches, strawberries, red grapes & pineapple)
  • 2 c OJ

Day Thirty Eight (its a two-fer)

Can't seem to catch a break around here these days. We went to my inlaws to watch the game today and by half time my oldest son was curled up on the couch (after having spent most of the first half curled up on either my or my husband's lap) with a low grade fever, crying because his throat hurt so badly. So, we packed up and came home early. We'll be heading to the dr in the AM to get a throat culture and probably some antibiotics. Hmph.

I made a smoothie for my inlaws and then made a second one when we got home. Trying to pump my son (and family) up with some extra vitamins & anti oxidants to get these nasty germs out of our house! So, today's post will be a "two-fer"! Enjoy!
Smoothie One:
  • 2 bananas
  • 3 big handfuls of strawberries (rinsed, with tops intact)
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 big handfuls spinach
  • 1 apple
  • the juice from the bottom of my fresh cut pineapple bowl
  • ICE

It was yummy, but for some reason did not come out very smooth. My inlaws liked it, but both my husband and I were a little put off by the grittiness. I think I just didn't let it go long enough in my vitamix. I dunno.

Smoothie Two:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 pineapple spear
  • 2 c OJ
  • 2 big handfuls spinach

This is an old standby for my kids and I knew they'd drink it. They loved it and both had seconds.

Day Thirty Seven

OOPS! I made the smoothie bright and early yesterday morning, but just never sat down to blog it. How did I let that happen? I've been struck by plantar faciitis and it really seemed to mess with not only my workouts, but my mind as well. I've finally arrived at a place where I'm committed to getting healthy. I'm drinking my green smoothies, eating more salad everyday, and I was working out consistently. And then WHAM! I can't walk. At all. When I get up in the mornings, I literally look like an 87 year old woman trying to hobble to the bathroom. Its really frustrating and I spent most of yesterday feeling sorry for myself. So, in a nutshell, that's how I missed my blog post. My apologies.
I will be going to my inlaws to watch the Superbowl today and I'm taking my vita-mix with me to make a smoothie for them. I'll blog my recipe from their house. So, here we go. Yesterday's smoothie was:
  • 1 T coconut oil
  • 3 pineapple spears
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 c water
  • lots of spinach
  • ICE

It was ok. I'm just not a fan of the coconut oil. But I contintue to use it because I know its healthy. Like the last one, it tasted better after it had been in the fridge for a while. I'll check back in later this afternoon!

Day Thirty Six

We left the house bright and early today for a homeschool field trip. We took the boys to the Boeing Flight Museum and boy did they ever have a blast! It was my first time there as well and my husband hadn't been in about twenty years. Since we were to be on our feet most of the day, I made our smoothie early and packed it in the van with us to give us that extra energy boost we'd need.

  • 2 cups water
  • 3 bananas
  • approx 2 cups fresh mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries & raspberries)
  • 3 big handfuls of spinach
  • ICE

It was delish and I just finished the last of it about 10 minutes ago. YUM!

Not fun stories to tell today. I think yesterday's wild ride involving a dog, some worms, some regurgitition, a feces collection and copious amounts of gagging has left my brain fried. I won't share pictures. (yes, my husband actually took some). I'm still not recovered. I may never be. Ugh. Anyway, here we go.
  • 2 c water
  • 2 bananas
  • 4 large handfuls spinach
  • 2 pineapple spears
  • 2 big handfuls blueberries
  • ICE

Yum. Its actually got a very mild flavor. I couldn't even taste the pineapple. Go figure.

Day Thirty Three

Hubby just tried yesterday's smoothie this morning and he told me "That might have been my favorite smoothie so far." Huh, go figure. It was a thrown together, last minute deal. I love it when things work out like that. Today was the start of a new routine with our homeschool, so I wanted to make sure whatever smoothie I made was one they'd surely love. And the did love it. And they are still sitting on the table. Full. I will never understand the workings of the brains of young boys. *sigh* So anyway...
  • 1 cup OJ
  • 1 spear pineapple + a little juice from the container
  • 1 banana
  • 2 big handfuls spinach
  • ICE

That's it. Its their favorite combination. I like it, too. And mine isn't still sitting on the table. Its sitting in my tummy. Where it makes me happy.

Day Thirty Two

Phew, talk about cutting it close! I made it just under the wire here tonight. Luckily, I live on the West Coast, so its not actually past midnight yet. For those on the East Coast, I apologize for getting this out so late. Monday's are crazy days in our household and while I rely heavily on my smoothies to get me through them, I rarely get the luxury of sitting down to the computer long enough to get my post finished. Ok, here we go:
  • aprox 2 c fresh blueberries
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cameo apple
  • whole bunch of spinach
  • squirt of agave

Let 'er rip. I love blueberries and bananas together. YUM.
